So I did get to see the Superbowl....it was awesome.  GO GIANTS!  Leave it to my team to win the superbowl while Iīm here in Paraguay.  All I have to say is thank goodness for ESPN!

The camps this summer were so much fun...helped out some fellow volunteers...reading...singing...art projects...games...heck I even pulled out all the stops and taught them how to make friendship bracelets.  Now I started a phenomenom in my house and I donīt know how Iīm going to stop.  Itīs a good way to pass time though and not an expensive project in the least.  With the camps and working with the other volunteers it was awesome to see their sites and where they are living..what their communities are like and see that every PC volunteer seems to find their own little niche.  Everyoneīs work is different even when you are in the same sector because you really work to meet the needs of your own community.

I have some charlas AKA workshops coming up this month.  I just did one last week on songs...lots of dancing and singing.  The teachers seemed to like it.  Now I have 3 math charlas planned for this month.  Iīm still teaching English...Iīm up to about 15 students now.  Seems like I have someone new every class...it makes it interesting.  Iīm now helping out with a womenīs basketball team.  They play every night and even though I never had much talent in that area and a certain lack of height...it has been fun nonetheless. I have never seen so many women playing a sport together in Paraguay.  They have 2 coaches...so Iīm working with them and giving them ideas on what we can work on, but I also get to play with them so that makes it fun too.

Semana Santa is coming up so Iīll be making lots of chipa Iīm sure.  As for what chipa is...well...think bread...with some cheese...lots of pig fat...baked...then they get really hard.  Almost bagel like...During Semana Santa, Wednesday to be exact, Paraguayans make tons and then on Good Friday thatīs like all they eat.

Today I went to the American Market...they run it every Thursday here in Concepcion and they sell American products.  They use the money they make from the market to help fund the hogar (childrenīs home) that I work at.  Today I got a 5 lb. box of Pancake mix and a 6 lb can of Applesauce.  Then the paīi (the priest) gave me (and 2 other volunteers with me) free gelatin to make.  He assured me that the Paraguayans donīt know how to make jello.  Awesome...I think I have a new project.

Thatīs all from Paraguay...whatīs happening in the states?

Basketball?
Yes, Shorty, you definitely are missing it in one needed area! But sounds like you are playing hard along with working hard. Keep up the good work!

Not much happening here. I applied for a job with General Dynamics in Woodbridge. Am supposed to get an offer next week. We'll see--depends on what they offer me. It's a 15-20 mile longer commute!! But I am getting on in years and need more for retirement!!

Rebel is getting so he cannot move as easily as before. He has trouble getting up the five steps off my back porch. He also has a cataract covering his left eye and doesn't see well from that one. He sends his love!!!

We miss you at bowling. Lots of people ask about you, so keep us informed!

Love you, Mama Street
