Let me tell you...there is nothing like sitting on the side of the road waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for a bus to come. Just when you think you´ve got the Paraguayan bus system figured out...there you are sitting on the side of the road...a bookbag...a campo bag ready to burst with math didactic materials...and a roll of posterboard which I think is ready to pop open at any second. I have to wonder what the people across the street drinking beer outside the despensa were thinking...jaja...she´s never gonna get a bus. So there I am...Wednesday nite...as the minutes tick away and I realize I´m not going to make it to the radio show...yup you heard me right...I was supposed to have an interview on the radio...don´t get too excited. It was just 3 of my volunteer friends that run a radio show every Wednesday night...well it was gonna be my first time on and I missed it. So I call and tell them...look guys...I know I´m missing the rehearsal...and the pizza...okay...you´re right and the beer...BUT...don´t think this fine bus system is gonna let me make it this week. Oh well...I´ve got 18 more months...I´m bound to make it there sometime, right...So instead of talking on the radio, I got to the pizza shop to hang out where us PCVs are well known...and order a hamburguesa completa...that means burger with everything...even an egg on top. Then he offers me something to drink...cerveza he says...no, just a coke please. Just because my friends were here an hour earlier drinking beer doesn´t mean I want it too! So I take out my math materials and start working away like the guapa volunteer that I am preparing more stuff for my workshop the next day while I listen to their radio show at Mama Mia´s pizza. Paraguayan translation for guapa...hard working for all of you who thought I was just calling myself beautiful. QUE GUAPA!
So I know now you´re wondering how my workshop went...it went well...my first math workshop at another PCVs school and they invited me back next year so I guess they liked it. What a relief...Did I mention the kids outside on their recess break cutting the grass with 2 ft long machetes...what a site to see...I mean can you imagine...I know you guys really want to play but the grass is tall so here´s this machete...go out there and cut away and no running!
That´s it...my exciting second week in November in Paraguay...now your life is complete having known what I´m doing!
Now send me an update because I want to know what you guys are doing!
