Hi there! Happy Halloween...yes I know I'm a few days late!
Just got back from an exciting VAC meeting (that's our volunteer group...for all the volunteers that live in my area). There's like 15 of us...anyhow we went to another volunteers site and for all the time that we've been without rain...it stormed. Picture 10 americans on a campo bus 2.5 hours on a red dirt road. We even had to get off the bus at one point to walk across the bridge...reason being...the people want a new bridge so they burned the one they have. Makes sense right...want a new bridge...set fire to the old one. Their plan might work...but for the time being...I'm not sure just how safe it is...of course who's gonna know. Then the volunteer in the seat in front of me hears a crack and her seat starts to fall through the floor of the bus. I'm holding up her seat because I'm sure that any second now half the seat is gonna fall through the floor of the bus. I can see the ground through the hole where the board is broken. I mean to think that one little wooden board is separating us from the wheels of the bus. So she stands up...a little freaked out maybe...but okay cuz she didn't fall through. So the guy who collects the money on the bus and serves the driver terere comes over takes a quick look and assures her that the seat is fine. Tranquilo! So the rest of the hour and a half her seat is bouncing away and i'm just waiting for a bounce and then watch the seat go. So...no party at the rio (river) and no electricity and no water, but definitely an interesting bus ride! So it was a bit like camping but inside a house...candles, smores, music and all...we cooked smores over the gas stove since it was raining! To answer your question...no marshmallows and no graham crackers here. That was mailed from the states from a former volunteer. It was good to get together and see how everyone is doing. Then we'll all see each other again in a couple of weeks for Thanksgiving. PC puts on a big Thanksgiving weekend at a hotel with pools...good food...talent show...I'm psyched. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and just relaxing for a nice weekend. And I'm not gonna lie...looking forward to the turkey as well...though we are in Paraguay...so there's a good chance they'll find some way to fry it...but Im hoping not!
Miss and love you guys!

Thanksgiving Greetings
Hey, Lis. What an adventure! Scary at the time, but one of those things you will look back on differently. Glad you are safe.
I'm so happy that you will have a real Thanksgiving. It will make our celebration much better. We are going to Ginny's for Thanksgiving this year. Wish you could be there. We will be thinking of you that day, as we do every day.
Love, Mama Street
