Hey all...Itīs been a while since my last update! Iīll try to remember to post all the good stuff!
Dia del Nino AKA Childrenīs Day August 16th in Paraguay. What a celebration at the school...complete with hot dogs, cake, and lots of sugar and soda. Nothing like getting 150 kids all sugared up and then letting them on a moon bounce...here they call it globo loco...no wonder! Paraguayans were amazed to know that in the US this holiday does not exist! They also have a Dia del Juventud (Youthīs Day...I guess thatīs how it would translate) on September 21st...first day of spring!
Peace Corps/ Parguayīs 40th Celebration. We got a visit from the Worldwide director of Peace Corps and our Regional Director for Central and South America. Picture a sector fair..lots of speeches and a ceremony complete with skits and singing. It was a fun weekend to get in and see everyone. The Regional Director made the trip up to Concepcion and I got to have dinner with her and some other volunteers and coordinators. The next morning they all came to watch me teach a nutrition lesson with a health educator from the hospital at the school with my 2nd and 4th graders. It turned out pretty well and they had nothing but good things to say! What a relief! The kids were good...loved the singing, games, and making a fruit salad for snack. They took lots of pictures of me with my kids and as soon as they mail them out to me Iīll get them posted! They also got to visit my casita! Whoohoo...
Okay...well I have to say since I arrived in Paraguay my perception of a ĻmodernĻ bathroom has changed a bit. So while the info on my house says I have a modern bathroom, which I do...Iīm lacking running water! Apparently the owner of the house (not the couple Iīm living with...they are renting too) ran up a bill and they actually cut the water service off for nonpayment. So...I could potentially have running water...even hot water is ready in the shower...but Iīd have to pay what the owners owe because they obviously donīt care because they arenīt living there. Iīve thought about looking into how much it would be..but iīm pretty used to the bucket bath by now. Although every once in a while I have to admit that the shower is nice! Thatīs what my trips to Asuncion are for though!
K well I have lots of pictures to post as soon as I can get to a place that will upload them! Love and miss you all!

Hey, Lis. I was a little late getting to this blog, but finally made it. Great to hear that you are having a good time while working. Having fun with what you are working on is always a plus. We start bowling this Saturday and are really going to miss you!
I grew up with bucket baths and occasionally one in a washtub so I know what you are going through! Just think of it as part of this awesome adventure!
Love, The Street Gang
