So I made it back from my site visit! Another volunteer and I took the overnight bus to get back to Asuncion.
My site visit was interesting to say the least...it rained a lot so I didn't get to walk around and see very much. The roads flood when it rained and then you have to wade through the streets to get to town. Apparently there is strategy to walking around all the puddles and the deep mud according to my future host sisters. The family I stayed with lives right across the street from the school. The father is working out of the country so it's just the mom and 4 daughters - 17, 16, 8, and 6. Two of them will go to the school I'll be working with. They're all really nice.
On Friday they had a reception at the school for me. They brought out the table cloths, juice, and cake. The students (about half of them - 75 or so) sang a song and the directoras and teachers gave a welcome speech. I of course had to give a speech too for the kids, parents, teachers, and directoras. It was really a nice welcome - I didn't expect it at all. The community seems really excited about me going up there to work with them. I already have a dozen requests to teach English classes. At least now I have some faces to look for that are familiar in the community.
I'm about a 25 min walk to town where I can shop and I heard there is Internet and all that since it's a pueblo. I'm going to meet the other volunteers that live in my pueblo when I go back to stay.
So it's 2 more weeks of training and then I go from Trainee to Volunteer. Love hearing from you guys!
