The hot tub was well populated with boisterous kids and a very laid back parent. Took about three seconds before she had enfolded us into the fray. "hand me my phone" she says to one of her kids. "we got to get Shey Shey down here, Isabelle and Shey Shey will love each other".
That is Gladys, having a sense of what will work and making it happen. She was right, Isa and Shey Shey took to each other like a hummingbird to a flower. Flitting about, laughing and playing. The next thing I knew we were invited over for dinner. For the next three days they played, we all played together. Wonderful conversations, laughter and the sense of friendships in the days to come. Shey Shey said you Isa, "you are my sister" solemnly Isa agreed.
When they left, Isa was so angry. She wouldn't hug anyone, wouldn't say goodbye. I held her, my heart hurting with her pain. As Shey Shey drove away Isa burst in to tears. "She never should have told me she was my sister if she was going to leave". Oh how I hurt for her, the joy of someone new and the pain of goodbye.
After they left the park felt empty, there were other children there but it wasn't the same. After a few days we decided to head on to San Jose where we could meet up with our friends.
