Isabelle's friends Katie and Alex and their mom Jody are there the whole time as we make the final steps to leave. Peter and Katie help with getting the bike hooked on top of the truck. Susan comes for a last hug. Our good friend Sally is there to make sure I've hooked up right.
I look around at the place we've called home. I take a deep breathe, we aren't leaving behind a house but a treasured community, something that is rare to come by. Tears stream down my face, Katie, Alex, Jody and Sally run along side our truck waving wildly. I feel so much sadness at leaving. Leaving those we love is the hardest part of this journey.
We are off.
Our first stop is on the coast of Oregon, only a couple of hours from where we are. I don't go far because my brother Christian and his partner Paul are coming from Vashon Island to meet us. One last time visit before we don't see them for a while.
Full Hook Ups. Okay I admit it, when the weather isn't so good I WANT full hook ups. I want water, electricity, and our poop and grey water to drain away. Gone. So with much trepidation I decided to try another KOA. What a surprise, okay, it wasn't in the best location, and in the summer it would be really crowded. But it was clean, it had a beautiful view of the bridge. We could walk down to the bay and find all sorts of treasures and the ocean was a nice mile walk.
Riding on a High. The first couple nights it rained, I found a leak in Chimeranda and the awning wouldn't work. but do you think I cared? Not a bit, we were on a honeymoon trip of a life time. Christian and Paul arrived, the weather cleared up, the sky a sunny bright crystal color. Oh such fun, we walked to the ocean. Paul flew our kite. we played freeze tag on the beach. Isa took pictures of us and snuggled up close to her uncles.
Then they left and suddenly the KOA just wasn't as beautiful anymore. So off we went only this time it was a side trip to get Chimeranda repaired.
Eugene. Wasn't far away so we went back to get a few last minute fixes. We spent the night with our friends Stephan and Anne then headed back on the road.
All of us inside Chimeranda and it worked out wonderfully.
