Wonderfully Indescript

There is wonderfully NOT much to write about Thailand... it has been exactly the rest and relaxation Nick and I were needing after our 2 weeks in Burma..... 5 hour bus ride from the new international airport in Bangkok to Trat, where we caught the last ferry to Koh Chang, and island off the east coast of Thailand. We were REALLY lucky and happy to have been able to end our daylong traveling in Koh Chang..... (um, since 6 AM in Yangon to 9 PM arrival on an tropical island in Thailand). We spent the past 5 days just sleeping, indulging in buffet western breakfasts, reading, exploring the island on the motorbike, and finally on our last day, the sun broke through and we got a slight sunburn. For the first time, it's with a bit of smug satisfaction as rainy season really is... rainy season. But on Thursday, we rented a motorbike again and found a beach on the southern end of the island where the sand was enveloped our feet in its fine grains and the sun illumininated the blue green waters... Finally, this was the universal tropical island beach we had been looking for. As we drove back up to our place on the eastern side, about 20 mintues away, we realized how localized the weather was, as it was still overcast there. But it further reinforced our content with staying at the more expensive bungalow (900 Baht/night, approx $27) than hut (300 Baht/night, $9)we were deciding between. KB Resort offers bungalows that are surprisingly new and with beautiful wooden floors, and tiles that still gleam in the bathroom, all on a quiet beach. And ABF -- American BreakFast, buffet style -- included. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone interested spending a bit more but having comfortable and aesthetically pleasing accomodations. One of the most intellectually challenging events of the 5 days was the Scrabble tournament Nick and I held each night. One game a night at almost 3 hours a game, all talking ceased until one of us protested each other's played word. (We're both rather competitive people.) I won the first game, he won the second and third. The last night, I won, bringing us to a draw. For now.
