During our winter time in Brownsville, our Winter Haven community is a '55 and over' collection of regular houses, manufactured homes and RV lots, some with, or without, 'Texas' rooms usually like studio apartments... our's has a carport and storage/laundry room besides the 'Texas' room and the concrete area for the motorhome.
We keep pretty busy with various activities, as I've mentioned in past Travel Pods. Both of us play a variety of card games about five nights a week... Terry plays Bridge, Pinochle, Cribbage and Texas Hold 'em, plus he plays Pool and Golf. I play mostly a couple varieties of Ponytail Hand and Foot Canasta, another couple of card games, dominos and, weather permitting, Waterball.
Of course, there's lots of special events, like New Year's Eve dance (we didn't go) and the Super Bowl. For the Super
Bowl, they had a large screen for the game and everybody brought all kinds of great snack food and drinks. I can't stand football, so I wasn't interested in the game, but all the friends, food and drinks were fun... until they had audio problems, and by that time we had all already eaten too much, so many of us went home.
There's also several weekly events like BBQs, Ice Cream Socials (at which, once a month, birthdays are celebrated... mine was included in January), dinners with entertainment, Saturday night dances, Potlucks and lots more. In fact, there's a whole legal-sized, monthly sheet, listing all of the activities for everyone to choose from.
We also have a group called 'The Winter Haven Wanderers', who take their RVs out for 2-4 days at some other park... they went to San Antonio before Christmas (which is really nice to see the Riverwalk all lit up, even more than usual, plus a Parade of (decorated) Boats, etc.). We didn't go that time, but we did go with them at the end of January to the SeaWind RV Resort on Baffin Bay, about 2 hours north of Brownsville, at Riviera, TX (also near the famous King Ranch and Kingsville, TX).
We had dinner at a local seafood restaurant one night, a potluck dinner another night, plus a couple of 'Happy Hours' and a waffle breakfast, around one, or another, of the RVs. We even played Dominos one evening and it was a fun outing for all, even the dogs..
The day after we got back to Winter Haven, I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers for my birthday, from our good friend Frank on Maui, while Terry and several others from our park, took a chartered flight to Laughlin, NV for 4 nights of casino gambling.
While they were gone, we had our own excitement, of a different kind... the 3 day freezing rain and ice storm, that pretty much paralyzed everything!!! It was such a shock to see icicles hanging off our awnings
I really appreciated the nice weather because we went on another 3 night RV outing, with our Tip-O-Tex FMCA group, to South Padre Island, which is only about 25 miles from Winter Haven.
The first night we had a short Happy Hour before having a prime rib and fish (grouper) dinner at the Pier 19 Restaurant.
