We left Chestnut Lake and headed north through New Jersey to meet with another Maui friend. We knew Shelley and her late husband Marvin, for many years on Maui. She also worked with my daughter Karen at Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. We met her at a WalMart shopping center in Cedar Knolls, NJ a few miles from her home in Randolph, NJ.

When we got there, Terry realized that there was a problem with our RV's batteries, so he worked on fixing that while Shelley and I had lunch at a nearby Italian restaurant. We had a nice chat catching up on what each of us have been doing since leaving Maui. She and Marvin had gone to Florida from Maui, however, after his death she moved up to New Jersey to be closer to her familly.

She's now going to school to learn a new career with hospital/medical billing that requires learning a lot of the medical terms and vocabulary that most of us trip all over. It's not easy starting over, so we wish her the very best. Meanwhile, we brought a Subway meatball sandwich back to Terry who had fixed the battery problem which luckily, wasn't bad and everything was back to normal.

We got back on the road and drove up through New York to the Adirondacks and Lake George. We stayed for two nights at the Schroon River RV resort until it was time to go over to Vermont where we were to attend a RV Rally.

We are members of the Family Motor Coach Association which is a large organization for people with motor homes and they have many different chapters all over North America. Every year they  have several RV Rallies in various places around the US. This rally was for the Northeastern Area and was called "Two Nations - One Family" and they had lots of people from both sides of the USA/Canada border.

The Rally wasn't very big and didn't have a great variety of venders or seminars. But we did find a few worthwhile items to buy and learn about. One of the best seminars was about Fire and Safety and included the main causes of RV fires, when to 'fight or flight', how to use the various kinds of fire extinquishers and even had live fire demonstrations.

I also enjoyed the Vermont Police K-9 Association's demonstrations.  The dogs, of course, were well trained and after the questions and answers, we could get up close with them. The police handlers said the dogs don't always like to be petted by strangers, however, one of them 'Buck' seemed to like me just fine and let me pet him and toss his ball, etc.
