Four years ago we met Sue and Hutch at North Fork and Hutch, a very talented mural artist, painted a beautiful mural for us on our old RV. That RV already had a wonderful mural on the back end of an Indian on horseback holding a lance and there were two black panthers next to him on the snowbank and below the mural was written "Dream Chaser".
We loved both murals, however, unfortunately, we had an accident with that RV in Iowa the next year (see my Travel Pod titled "A big uh oh .....Houston, we have a problem!" http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/chictravelers2/5/1183964700/tpod.html) and, of course, we couldn't salvage them.
When we got our next RV, which did not have any murals, we knew that we would want Hutch to do another mural for us. So we've been traveling for the last three years in anticipation of getting back to VA and Hutch. I had kept in touch with them by email and they met us on Wednesday to discuss our ideas for the mural and catch up with each other's news, etc.
They used to also move around in a RV, although mostly along the lower Atlantic Coast. They decided to stay put for a while, mainly so their son could attend high school. A few months ago, they got a great deal and bought a property in Luray, about 30 miles south of Front Royal. On the property, there's a burnt down house that has a usable foundation, plus another building that's close, but untouched by the fire. They're temporarily living in a 5th wheel trailer that they brought in while they're re-modeling the buildings and doing a lot of other projects.
Luckily, Hutch also has a lot of construction skills because they'll be doing most of the work themselves. They think it'll take them about three years to finish everything, if all goes well, and I'm looking forward to seeing it because I know it'll be great. They told me about a few unique pieces that they already have that sound awesome, but unfortunately, I'll have to wait to see them beause they're in storage.
Meanwhile, they came back to us the next day and Hutch painted a new mural for us, even better than I had hoped for. It's a tropical, almost sunset beach scene, with a hammock between palm trees, two dolphins jumping out of the surf, a surfboard leaning against a tiki hut and lots of flowers. Below that is written "Aloha Y'all" with more flowers. It's great!
We had to also repeat another adventure that we did four years ago....Canoe down the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. This time we did the longer 12 mile trip that included a couple of Class II rapids.
