Red River Ranch RV Park

I always loved the musical and song "Oklahoma'. Last year, we crossed the state rather quickly from west to east on the way towards Alabama. This year, we started about mid-state on the Texas/Oklahoma border, then crossed diagonally to the northeast corner.

The southern border of Oklahoma (not counting the panhandle) is the Red River that meanders along creating many little peninsulas. We stayed for a couple of nights at the Red River Ranch RV Resort in the small town of Thackerville, OK which is located in one of those peninsulas. If you move 1-5 miles to the East South or West you'd be back in Texas.

After there, we stayed at the Bear's Den RV Resort in Grove, OK only about 10 miles from the Missouri border to the east or about 20 miles to the Kansas border to the north. The park is located next to the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, which is about 8' over normal level. A short while ago, it was even higher and flooded some of the RV lots. Even now, some of the lots are still too swamped to use and many trees are 'knee or thigh deep' in the water.

The weather on Mother's Day was dreary and it rained in the morning, mostly cleared for the afternoon, then rained again. The kids called to say 'Happy Mother's Day', so that brightened my day.
