Our next major stop was at Hershey, PA. The whole town was created by, or as a result of, the Hershey family and their huge chocolate factory. This is a fun place to visit for anybody of all ages, but an absolute MUST for "Chocoholics".
We then drove northeast across PA, northern NJ and into the southeast corner of NY. We made the mistake of taking the scenic route along the Hudson River
Our goal was White Plains, NY where we grew up part-time (the other part-time was mostly in Madeira Beach, FL). Our parents grew up in Southern CA and hated the cold and snow of the NY winters so we sort of commuted back'n'forth, spending the winters and summers in FL and the springs and falls in NY. Which, in our opinion, is the only time worthwhile anywhere in the northeast. The spring flowers and the fall foliage are both beautiful but living there year-round was not to our liking.
Anyway, when we got to White Plains, I was very disappointed. I had lived there less than Terry had, so I didn't have any friends to look up. He only was able to reach one old friend but he was able to give Terry the contacts for a couple more friends. There were not any RV parks in the area, so we spent the night in a public park not very far from where we used it live.
The whole area, plus going through CT on our way to Providence, RI was really not much to our liking. The roads, even the highways, were narrow and everything just felt very cramped
The party was held at Carlos' villa in Oxnard and was a big success. About 60 people were there and one of Tracy's uncles had a huge Texas size BBQ on a trailer that they parked at the curb out front. They also had a castle party bouncer for the kids and tables and chairs for eating outside as well as inside. There was a ton of delicious food and lots of presents for the baby.
It was a really nice visit for me to see family and friends. Living on Maui, I was spoiled to be around my grandkids Ryan and Cheyenne all the time. Then, when they moved to SoCal I really missed them. Now that we're 'on the road', every time we get to SoCal is a gift for me to be able to spend time with them. Also, they're growing up so fast, there's noticeable changes and it's a lot different than back on Maui.
While I was in SoCal, Terry was spending time on Cape Cod. He mostly went fishing and played a round or two of golf. I flew back to Providence, arriving in the late afternoon. It was rather funny that my toy poodle Lika, had finally settled down with Terry after the second day that I was gone and behaved herself the whole time. However, when Terry picked me up at the airport, at first she just laid in the seat quietly, then she realized that I was standing there and she went bizerk...jumping all over, screaming and carrying on, she was so happy to see me....but both Terry and I would have preferred that she would have stayed calmed down.
We drove directly to see our friends' house for dinner. Sherry and live in South Dennis on the Cape and we had a lovely visit catching up on all that's happened to all of us over the last thirty-odd years.
