When we stopped for fuel just east of Houston it was dreary and really cold (probably in the low 40's or even lower). But we got a fun surprise about 50 miles southwest of Houston on Hwy 59, near Wharton. At first we thought there must be a truck of chickens ahead of us but it was snow flurries!! The snow was flying horizontally and it wasn't enough to stick, at least not right then.
We heard that later that night, it did build a little in that area and also across most of southern Louisiana
After spending the night in the WalMart parking lot in the relatively small town of Edna, we drove on to our winter home at the Winter Haven Resort in Brownsville, TX. This year we got a nice location right on one of the resacas (canals), so Terry can fish right off the deck. It's also close to the restrooms, laundry and one of the three pools, as well as, a nice patio where we have weekly Pot Luck dinners.
We quickly fit right back into the many activities in the resort...a weekly hot dog and hamburger BBQ, various card games like Bridge, Cribbage, Pinochle and Texas Hold'em. Terry has played golf twice in less than a week that we've been here. Not to mention practicing his game of pool for the upcoming competitions. This weekend we'll also start our get togethers with some friends at another nearby resort, where we play a Canasta game called Hand & Foot, as well as, a lot of other fun gatherings.
So far, the weather has been pretty good, except yesterday was colder and dreary, but it's supposed to get back up into the 70's and 80's. I got most all of the Xmas decorations set up and the whole park looks very festive for the Holidays
Another nice thing is that the gas prices are lower than they've been in a few years!! I filled up a couple of days ago at $1.28!!! When was the last time you saw that?
Well, this is my last entry for 2008. I'll start a new Travel Pod after the New Year.
I hope you all are well and Happy Holidays to all.
