From Playa Amor we drove up to a place called Celestino about 20 miles south of Culiacan. During our Mexican travels we usually used the 'free' roads, as opposed to the 'cuota' toll roads and we had been told that the toll road in this area was especially expensive. However, the RV park was only accessable from the toll road. So we took the free road up to a point where there was a side road that crossed over to the toll road, just north of the toll booth. Well, it seemed like a good plan...until the side road ran out of pavement. It became a graded dirt road that required slowing down to little more than a crawl but wasn't too bad except for the dust!!

We came across a young man on a motorcycle that confirmed to us that the road did go thru to the toll road. However, with the toll road in sight, we had to turn left onto an even smaller dirt road that eventually, after what seemed like we'd never get there (and there definitely wasn't any way to turn around, even if we had wanted to), got us onto the toll road. It was similar to a major highway in the US, with two lanes of concrete in either direction, cruising along and NO TOPES!

Then when we got to the exit we needed, I couldn't believe my eyes....it was a dirt road for the first 100'! Then getting back onto the pavement was short lived, we were soon back on graded dirt road for about 4 miles until finally arriving at the Celestino RV park. It wasn't an especially pretty park, long and narrow, from the road to the ocean. They had a nice patio overlooking the endless beach that stretched about as far as the eye could see in either direction. The park had good hook-ups, friendly people, really good bathrooms, showers and laundry and so-so WI-FI, but the weather was chilly and real foggy in the evenings and mornings, so we only stayed 2 nights, then moved on.

There wasn't anything else that we really wanted to spend any time visiting along the rest of the way up to the border, so we decided to push on through without much more delay. We did want to buy some shrimp at Guaymas, the shrimp center on the west coast, so we did. Luckily, there were vendors conveniently located on the outskirts of town so we didn't have to go into the crowded part of town.

Since it was almost dark by then, we decided to overnight at a huge Pemex on the north side of Guaymas that turned out to be very popular! All day long, we had seen many vehicles, of every type, that were with a traveling circus. Over the next few hours all of them caught up to us there at that Pemex, plus there were several other big trucks and a couple more RVs, too.

Stupid me, I forgot to take any photos.....sorry.
