Playa Amor and San Blas
Entry 22 of 24 | show all | print this entry |
After two pleasant weeks at Punto Perula, we finally started to move up the west coast. We had been told that it would take 3 1/2 hours just to get to Puerto Vallarta. Well, it only took about 2 1/2 hours to get to the outskirts of PV (it's common nickname), then it took over an hour to get to the WalMart, which is right on the main road around the town but sort of on the far side. So yes, it takes 3 1/2 hours, plus at least another 30-40 min. to actually get past the town.
We continued on to the Playa Amor RV park a few miles before San Blas. The park had been full of mostly Mexicans with tents and small campers for the Holidays around Easter, but they had started to thin out. By the next day, over half of them had left.
We had chatted with some of the other 'Norteamericanos' staying there. One couple, Martin and Judy, from Idaho, told us about a place in San Blas where they had previously bought some great pork chops, so we made a pleasant trip into nearby San Blas. We bought some fruit and tomatoes from a street vendor for real cheap, then met up with Martin and Judy at a small restaurant right on the scenic public square. There was outside patio seating and we sat there chatting away while enjoying some beer, the company and people watching. Just about every town in Mexico has a central square, usually called a Zocalo, and besides always having the main church on one side of the square, it is usually a nice place for people to gather, etc.
The pork chops we all got were different from what we're used to. They almost seemed more like ham, but they were tasty.
