More Puerto Escondido
Terry usually got up early and went to the beach and/or the market. The big supermarket here, a Super Che, must be the only one for quite a distance, because it was always packed from opening at 7 am to closing at 10 pm. From the outside it looked much larger than the one in Huatulco but it wasn't. We found out that it had just opened the day before we arrived, hence the big crowds. After a few days it wasn't so crowded. But we also used another smaller market nearby that had great bargains for produce and fruits.
Terry found a few good things at the beach and we would sometimes go to the nearby Marinero beach, where we could use a couple of lounge chairs under a palapa (for a small fee) about 50 feet from the water. The water is a perfect temperature and Terry loves body surfing the small waves, he even bought a boogie board. I don't really like that very much, mainly because I hate getting covered with sand, especially inside my suit. But it definitely was nice to get in the water and cool off from sunbathing. We took it easy, keeping at least partly in the shade, but of course, you get the reflection as well. There's also a nice breeze that keeps it from being too hot. We've both gotten pretty good tans, especially Terry, and without any peeling.
Terry had also found a small restaurant at the far end of the beach, where they have a 'special' of a beer and a small plate of quite good cerviche for only $15 pesos (about US $1.35). So you can see that there are still some bargains to be had. It was a nice walk along the beach to get there and back, and the view was lovely. Meanwhile, we've found a few more places, some right on the beach where they don't charge for the use of the lounges and palapa if you buy something to eat and/or drink, so everybody wins.
He also frequently goes to the sort of 'fish market' that happens each morning when the fishing boats come in with their catch. They would sell whole fish or filets right then and there. Terry got a lot of excellent fish that way...Mahi Mahi, marlin and tuna, in particular, which we ate as sashimi and also seared. So very delicious!!
I also found a computer store where I bought a flash card/memory stick for when we use the internet places. I didn't want to waste time composing this travel log, there, when I could leisurely do it on my laptop and then use the flash card to transfer and post them, etc. I found this travel blog online that's free, so I started using it, as you can see, to tell about our travels. I used to have another one that I dropped because it was not free and was more difficult to use.
Terry meanwhile had checked the weather for Loreto, on the Baja, near where we used to go and it was not very nice. It might have been just for a short time, due to a storm or something, but it had a high of only about 68 degrees. So since the weather here is great and we were nicely situated, we paid to stay much longer than originally planned. As usual, we don't have any set schedule because we'd only change it as we go along.
