My Collection of Family Names
The French Canadians did have to move a tiny bit right after their original arrival because another couple from Germany arrived right after them. Yogam (sp?) and his wife Karin, who were quite nice and their RV is smaller, more like an overgrown van. It's a Mercedes diesel from Germany and has their German license plates. They ducked into a corner behind us and were happy with that for the three days that they stayed.
Then right after that, another young man arrived to check out the place. He had already paid for one night at another place but he liked it better here and moved in the next day. As we all were introducing ourselves, I got quite a kick out of all the names....first there was the lady at the Consulate Carlina (my baby granddaughter's name is Carlyna-Bella), then the German lady Karin (my oldest daughter is Karen), then the young man is Carlos (my son's name), and his uncle, who's traveling with him, is Fernando (my ex-husband's name)!!! All I needed next was a Sandi (my youngest daughter's name) and/or Cheyenne and Ryan (my other grandchildren's names)!!!
Carlos and Fernando are from Monterey, Mexico and Carlos has been to Oahu a couple of times, mostly for the surfing and speaks English very well. He gave up a well paying marketing job for a big beer company to become sort of a beach/surfing dude. He bought some property at the far end of Zicatela Beach that he is clearing and preparing to build a house on. He has a website and he sells surfing stuff online and sends it to wherever across Mexico. They stayed for about 3 weeks and we got to be good friends and we'll keep in touch.
He showed us his property, and asked me to help him with some plans for building there. He didn't have a clue, except that to start with, he would use his camper to sleep in and wanted to build a bathroom and kitchen area with some kind of roof for shade and cover, etc. I drew up some plans for him, which he loved because they can later be added on to when he builds a regular house.
Well, believe it or not, the next day my collection of family names got even bigger. Another couple arrived driving an old VW bus (also from Germany) that they've converted into a camper. They are friends of Yogum and Karin's. The man is German and his name is Rudi (our father's name and that's the way Dad's name was supposed to be spelled), his wife is an American, originally from Nebraska, named Jean (we had an aunt named Jean).
Their home base is in Germany, however, they have traveled extensively all over the world, most of which, in one, or the other, of the couple of home-made campers that they have built. I think Rudi could probably build almost anything. On this trip they are driving as far as Panama, then flying to Columbia for a side trip before returning to Panama and leisurely driving back north. They stayed for about a week in Puerto Escondido and we became friends and will keep in touch by email and follow each other's travels.
That's another of the great perks of traveling, especially by RV. You meet so many interesting people and can easily keep in touch by email and enjoy exchanging travel stories and information.
A few days later there was another addition to the collection. A couple from Wisconsin, Gene and Ardys, arrived with a Hi-Lo camper on their pick-up truck. We had 2 Genes (actually Eugene) in our family, my father's father and one of his 6 brothers (who was actually married to the previously mentioned Jean) were both named Gene.
