However.....when we got to Pozo Rica, again we missed the correct turn to take us to the Mayan ruins of El Tajin. The lack of proper road signs is a big problem, and neither of our two GPS units work here. Also our map is inadequate and the directions in the guidebook not only aren't that clear but they're for coming from the other direction. Plus the fact that we are about 50 feet long, with the RV and SUV behind, so turning around is not an easy option.

El Tajin is an important Mayan complex with about 20 of the 100+ structures excavated and open to the public. It is most famous for a large 7-story pyramid structure that has 365 niches around all the sides and to the top.

We also wanted to see the "Voladores", the Totonac Indians that perform there by throwing themselves off a 100' pole, attached with ropes around their bodies, and they 'fly' around on the way down. I had seen them many years ago and they perform all over Mexico, but this is their home-town area.

While trying to get to El Tajin, as we were slowly going over another 'tope', a  small car tried to pass us but came too close and scraped our step to the driver's door and caught the edge of the front 'bra', ripping out about 5 of the snaps! They stopped and apologized that it was their fault and although I didn't get out to look, they might have had a big scratch on their car, but there wasn't much else that could be done. I later velcro'd the 'bra' back in place.

When we finally found our way to El Tajin, the entrance to the parking lot was not properly marked, and it was too small, with low hanging branches, so we couldn't fit if we tried! We were so frustrated from what was turning out to be the Day From Hell, we decided to not even try to find a place to park and walk back, etc. It just wasn't worth adding to our frustration!

So we eventually found our way back to the main highway and continued south to the area known as the Emerald Coast.
