I awoke early again this morning. It is very hot and humid. We headed to a local restaurant for a couple of cups of fresh Nica coffee. It is so fresh it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. As we were enjoying our coffee a man walked passed the restaurant totally naked . Women are covering their eyes, people are crossing the street just to avoid him. Mike and I have a good laugh. We decide to take it easy today. Laundry is in order as we have exhausted our clean clothes and quite frankly we stink. We also hit a bank as our cash reserve is down to a critical level. Leon is a great city, itīs people very Liberal. There are however very obtrusive smells everywhere and people do not take care of their environment, throwing trash anywhere and everywhere. Central America is very unorganized from my point of view. Sidewalks are up and down, broken, car ramps cover them, street vendors sell their goods on them. Traffic is crazy and people love their horns often holding the horn until some sort of action is taken by the driver ahead. On several occasions I have witnessed 4 or 5 cars continuously holding their horn until some sort of action ahead of them takes place.(which can be several minutes)
We spent most of the early afternoon exploring the city. We had a woman who has lived through the civil war guide us around the Parque Central. This area is historical for the Nicaīs as several huge revolution moments took place here. The city is almost Gothic like.. itīs historical buildings grand but in a state of disrepair.
Businesses thrive here and the population over all is very young. We bought some Pastries from a bakery this morning, the air hugging the business smelt delicious and very enticing. We also bought a bunch of bananaīs and some oranges from a street vendor. We spent the late afternoon which was very humid enjoying a couple of cool beverages and servicing the bikes. There have been several loud claps of thunder but no rain.
There are local elections in the city tomorrow and therefore no alcohol is sold. We plan on going to Granada tomorrow to check out the city and itīs offerings.
