Wednesday November 4th
I am really beginning to lose track of the days and dates. If it were not for my journal I would have no idea what day is it. Once again the weather is beautiful. We left the hotel a little later this morning as we needed to go to the bank and exchange our Queztalīs ( Guatemalan currency ) back to U.S. dollars. Over breakfast this morning we needed to decide if we were going to take CA1 highway or CA2 highway. The original thought was CA1. Apun looking at the map we could see CA2 wraps around the Pacific Ocean coast for over 60 kmīs.That being said we also knew where thereīs water there are usually very curvy roads. We took a gamble CA2 it is. We left Sonsonate and headed for the highway. Once on CA2 we were not disappointed this highway snaked around the Pacific coast like snakes on Medusaīs head. Again huge sweeping turns, blind corners, constantly ascending or descending, beautiful panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the highway was very recently paved. We cut through several tunnels, came across a transport truck overturned on a blind corner and almost hit someone carrying a huge bundle of sticks that was probably 15 feet wide. Why canīt we have roads like this in Ontario? We drove through several fishing villages, beach front resorts and retirement centers. The only issue I had with this road is that everything smells like fish. YUCK. We stopped at one of the fishing villages to watch the fisherman mend their nets. We also stopped to watch 7 or 8 people surfing.

Once the road headed inland it became flat and straight. The temperature became very hot as well. We were back into farmland. We stopped along the roadside to talk to a farmer who was drying his Maize on the road. He was a very nice man full of smiles and happy. We entered Zacatecoluca and saw a brand new KLR for sale. We stopped to talk to the salesman for a minute. Tried to buy some chain lube and ended up being there almost an hour. As we approached San Miguel the vegetation changed again from farm land to lush tropical forest which always helps cool things down. Sometimes the trees are so large on either side of the road their branches literally create tunnels for several hundred feet. I particularly enjoy driving through these tunnels. We entered San Miguel and like all cities in Central America so far, it was very dirty. We found a hotel room and headed out for supper.
We had a great meal with a wonderful cup of Cappuccino. Everything so far in Central America is very inexpensive. ( Except for the first border crossing......... yeah yeah I know ). We have a very busy couple of days ahead of us. We plan on leaving El Salvador tomorrow and entering Honduras. Which in a way is funny because we are going to drive... wait .........wait for it ...................a total of 160 kmīs through Honduras to Nicaragua. Itīs probably going to take us longer too export our bikes out of El Salvador than it will take to drive across Honduras. If and this is a BIG IF we can actually get out of El Salvador then enter Honduras drive across part of the country exit Honduras and enter Nicaragua in one day it will be a miracle. We are going to see what happens but if there is one thing we have learned is that border crossings are never fast!

I'm jealous
Hi Moe & Mike,
SOunds like you guys are having a great time.
I can almost feel you going around those mountain
curves. Good for you for not letting the 'crooks'
get you at the borders.

The following is the address of the place that we stay when we are in Nicaragua. It is on the highway going south from the capital city of Managua towards
the town of Masaya.
Jenny de Morales (ask for her - speaks speaks great English)
Kilometro 12 Carretera Masaya
phone 505 279-7142

The director of the mission group from Guelph
is also there presently. Her name is Anette Vickers.

If you are near and need a place to stay
if is comfortable, safe, and very secure.

I'll touch base later.

Hi Moe,

It takes courage and a determined spirit, to embark
on a journey such as yours. All of us who are following your adventure are with you vicariously on your travels. With any adventure, you have to take the hiccups and stumbling blocks in stride, it makes your determination even that much stronger to finish the ride with good cheer.

Now you can really appreciate those twisties, nature, scenery, air and the diversity of culture (shock) around you.

By the way, Moe, your writing is that one of a poet...keep it going and all the best to you and Miguel.

Cheers,

Bob
