November 3rd
We have taken the day off today to see the sights and recollect ourselves. Antigua Guatemala is an interesting city. It is apx 3500´above sea level and surrounded by 3 volcanoes. There are over 27 indigenous groups that live in the area many of them still wearing traditional clothing. It has cobble stone streets, plenty of wrought iron around windows, clay roof´s etc. I would say it would be comparable to Europe 50-60 years ago. It has everything going for it.There are young entrepreneurs building independent business´s. The food is excellent as well. One can tour active volcanoes, coffee plantations and visit historical sites like Tikal.
We have learned several lessons from the Guatemalan border issue and will not make the same mistake twice. We have made a couple of friends and they have helped us tremendously today. Again we don´t feel as though our safety is at risk.We are looking forward to getting back on the road again tomorrow.
