October 27th
Another warm sunny day! After packing up we headed off to Sanchezīs for Mexican insurance. It didn't open until nine so we had a bite to eat at Dennyīs next door. After filling out extensive paper work and paying a small fee we were on our way.... butterflies ... we exchanged some American money to Pesos. The next step was the border..... Heart Racing, ...Butterflies have changed to knots in my belly. Of course I got searched by immigration. The next step was to import myself into Mexico, I then had to import the motorcycle. This took each of us apx 1 1/2 hours. It was fun, kids at the bus stop station next to immigration building were hiding from us. The KLRīs are huge here. Everybody is driving Mopeds or Mexican motorcycles. There was a huge difference crossing the border the most noticeable change is the garbage everywhere. I met a gentlemen named Peter who shepherded us through Matomoros. Thank goodness. Mexicans drive like they have nine lives. The ride has been very boring for the last 2 days. Just one big bowling ally no twisties. Just Crazy Mexican drivers. The vegetation has changed dramatically and as we drove down the highway all I could smell was a sweet aroma similar to oranges. About 10 minutes later we passed a huge orange orchard. There are many new types of butterflies that I have never seen before and there are thousands of Dragonflies. These are similar to ours except they are on some type of steroid and are twice the size! They are amazing fliers, so many came close to my head and I didīt hit one.
We found a motel in Ciudad Victoria for the night. We unpacked and went for a walk, we picked up a few beers and explored some of the local cooking. Mike being a chef wanted to see the kitchen, the "chef" invited us in. Mike just got a picture taken and the Manager started yelling at us and the chef.. oops.. time to go.
We headed back to our room to enjoy our nice cool beverages and a well deserved good night sleep.
