My friend recommended to me an ATV ride, a hike, and a tour to Rio Celeste through a tour operator called Before Tours in Costa Rica. At first I was a little concern about traveling using some one I didn't know. Guess what? SURPRISE

I contacted them and they gave me one of my best trips, if not the best of my life.

Picture this, my hotel room was facing the Arenal Volcano. A wall sized window facing this huge volcano. This is a perfectly shaped volcano, and it is VERY VERY active. You see smoke coming out of its crater, and at night you see red lava coming down from it. Again AMAZING!

So I wake up at 6:30 to have breakfast. Buffet style, all inclusive, all you can eat. By the way, the fruit was fresh and sweet, unlike other places I have stayed, where the fruit tastes just like... well tastes like nothing. The restaurant also has a graet view of the volcano.

The tour takes off at 8AM, and we are headed to San Luis. It's a 45 minute car ride to the center of operations where the real fun was waiting for me.

Here Before Tours (, has 8 ATV's for an exciting ride up the moutain to Rio Celeste. Not to make any free publicity, but these people have 8 POLARIS ATV phoenix 200. Great machines, all 2008 model, brand new. Anyways, after our safety lecture, we took off. Dirt roads, some mud, up hill, down hill, curves, water; you name it! We made a couple of stops to take some pictures of the sourrounding area. There was this one stop that simply took my breath away. I was standing at top of this hill, right in front of me I could see the "Lago Nicaragua", to my left I saw the Miravalles Volcano, then the Tenorio Volcano, then the Ricon de la Vieja Volcano, and then the Arenal Volcano. 4 volcanos, 1 huge lake from one spot. As unbelievable as it sounds, it is true. I almost filled my memory card on my camera.

We arrived to Rio Celeste, where we parked our ATV's. Here we hiked for 3 hours. We strated hinking up hill towards the Volan Tenorio. This area is protected by the government, as it is 90% primary forest. Rio Celeste gets its name from the color of its waters. There are 2 rivers that come together, and the chemicals coming from the volcano turn the water into a beautiful light blue color. (When I learn to attach pictures you will see it). This river has hot springs, a natural jacuzzi, and one big overwhelming waterfall. Prepare yourself for a hike if you decide to take this tour.

At the end, they had lunch prepared for us at this typical house. The food was prepared by "Doņa Casta", this lovable old lady. The taste was unbelievable. This was included on the price. After a few minutes of rest we headed down on our ATV's to the center of operations.

Before heading back to the hotel, they took us to the Ecotermales hot Springs, a private hot springs place that relaxes you like nothing else in this world. There are several pools, natural pools that is, with steaming water, some are a bit too hot, but you get used to it after a while. Here they serve you dinner, also included in the package. Same as the tour, good quality, good service.

Finally we head down to the hotel and enjoy the Volcano at night. Well, I did for like 5 minutes, once I hit the bed I was out.

Write to me if you have any questions about this tour!! I recommend it to everyone.
