Got up early to go buy night train tickets for trip to Berlin. Very well mannered/dressed meeter-greeter at the station. I had a croissant from the train station. With our free transport passes we tramed back to the hostel, put our things into storage and left for CERN.

Saw the two permanent exhibitions but we had just missed the guided tour of the facility. A little disappointed, we tramed back to the city centre. Had a stir fry from Manor's deli. Ate it on an island on the river. Weather was rather poor though.

Quick trek through the old city including St Peter's Cathedral and the Plaza Bourg-de-Four. Back in the open (and actually well before too) we could see the huge fountain/jet that is the symbol of the city. Pumps water 140 metres high, 7000 litres in the air at any one point.

Off again, this time to the Palais de Nations. The quarter houses the UN facilities in Geneva. The Art Deco old building once housed The League of Nations. Took a tour. Had security badges. Good guide. Saw various artwork that had been donated by member states. The variation in conference rooms was very interesting.

Hurried back to the hotel, grabbed our bags and rushed to the train. 2.5 hours to Basel and some loud Brits behind us later, we were in German speaking Basel.

Had Haxen from a Migros deli, Haxen being the salty roasted pork knuckle. Very good. Pretty lean.

Got on our night train. Had a six person cabin to ourselves. Ate a choc mousse. Ran outside at one stop to get water. Was otherwise a very comfortable night train.
