I was staying at the Melbourne connection and I have to say that it was a DIVE but enough of my moaning.
I decided to explore and see what Melbourne had to offer I took a walk to the DFO which is a shopping centre had a walk around there for a while and a few of the other streets and headed back to the hostel and chatted to some of the fellow travellers and had a few beers with them.
On my first proper day in Melbourne I decided to go for a walk down to the south bank and went to the Aquarium which was amazing there were sharks just swimming over my head and all other types of fish it was fantastic to think that this 2.2million litre tank had some of the most dangerous sharks and stingrays in there,
After the aquarium I took a stroll down the south bank and got myself the most amazing strawberry ice cream, and sat on the bank looking at some of the most amazing views of Melbourne city,
So all in all my first official day in Melbourne was great,
I then went to watch an AFL match Carlton V Hawks it was interesting but not proper Football it's more Rugby meets Basketball meets Wresterling and way too many interruptions in the game but glad I went as my Aussie mate Briley is a mad AFL fan and I don't think that I would have lived it down by not going to one, it was held in a great stadium and I did really enjoy it
In the evening I met up with this guy from Essex called Owen who was a right laugh we went to the Backpackers bar and had loads of beers there where we got chatting to these 2 Kiwi guys called Kiwi Steve and Kiwi Carmon had a few games of pool and had loads more beers till about 5.30.
The next day I woke up with a massive hangover and had my Neighbours tour in the afternoon and did not think that I would be able to hack that the way I was feeling, So me and a couple of the Canadian guys headed to the DFO for some breakfast and funny enough after a cooked breakfast I felt fine hangover GONE,
Actually as im talking about breakfast I have to say that the bacon and sausages out here are proper weird the bacon is just a string of fat and the sausages are very different,
It was time for me to head to Ramsay Street I arrive at the bus that was taking the group on the tour and as I stepped on it the theme tune was playing I was in fits of laughter thinking what the hell am I doing on here?
But it has to be the highlight of my time in Melbourne it was brilliant as we drove off these TVs came out of the roof and we watch all old episodes on the way to the street,
The tour guy Jerry was hilarious he was an Irish guy totally obsessed with Neighbours he took us to the school and then on to the famous Ramsay Street it was really weird just walking around this little culdi sac as the houses are real peoples homes and they were actually living in them, So we had many pictures taken in the street which was great and then we got back on the bus for more episodes,
and then it was on to St Kilda to meet one of the cast members, she was friendly enough but I have not got a clue who she was a I have not watch the show in 12 years,
But it was a brilliant day and the sun was out and I felt like a proper Aussie in my Billabong shorts in the boiling sunshine strolling around Ramsay Street.
I moved down to St Kilda which is the beach end of Melbourne but I have to say that I was not too impressed at all as I could not experience the beach due to the bad weather,
It reminded me of the Isle of Wight a bit in away that's why I was not so excited to see it as I thought I would have,
The seafront there is great though very busy and you see all the locals walking there dogs and having their runs,
So I decided to book myself on the 3 day Great ocean road tour
It was a great tour apart from the fact that the agency that I booked the tour with never told me that we would be camping,
Ok I have no problems with camping when I go to festivals but I'm prepared I have my airbed 2 pillows sleeping bag and light this tent had none of them apart from a crappy sleeping bag that I was lent,
The tour was really good got to see some fantastic views and beaches and waterfalls and even went on a midnight walk in the rain forest it was brilliant,
When we got to the camp site of our second night there were a couple of guys from Canada there on the same trip so we decided to get twatted and get on the beers we ended up getting back to our tents at 5.30 and had to be awake at 7.00am OOPS to say the least we was not really feeling like getting up early but we did.,
After the Great Ocean road tour it was time to head back to Melbourne there has been a couple of really nice hot days so as the weather had been so bad the week before it was time to get down to business and get working on that tan, so I spent the next few days lazing in the park and catching the rays,
I also went to the Eureka which is a massive tower that looks over the whole of Melbourne it's really great to be up that high and see the whole city below you and you can see what a pretty city Melbourne actually is.
My time in Melbourne I would say was way too long I have been here for 12 days and would tell anyone that would be coming that 5 days in Melbourne is more than enough in one city,
I am quite shocked how behind time they are out here as well,
I mean there supermarkets are how I would describe as early 1990 England so much stuff out here is quite dated I really though that Australia was on par with England but in a way it's nice to see it as it was back in the days,
Or maybe that's just Melbourne I don't know I guess that ill find out once I arrive in Sydney.
I have had a nice time here in Melbourne and really glad that I have been here,
I would come back here one day maybe in a few years time but I think I would like to come back when my friend Briley goes back as that's her home town and she can show me around all the parts that I never see, and can get to experience the life of an Aussie more being shown around by Aussie Briley.
See you in Sydney!
