Show trip route
My first impressions of Singapore is good,
A few people told me that I might not like it but it goes to show that everyone has a different opinion on a place.
Singapore is very clean and tidy and very well kept which suits me just fine,
I arrived at my hostel which is called "The Hangout" and it is a very nice place I booked in to a 8 bed dorm and got chatting to the 4 girls that were already in there,
They all seemed like nice enough girls to have a laugh with, So I got chatting to them to see what they have been up to and how long they are in Singapore for ect and they all told met that while I was here that I had to go to Raffels and have a Singapore Sling,
Everyone that I have spoken to has told me that I need to go to this place and try one of these cocktails, So I though well I might as well go and see what all the fuss was about so I called a taxi and arrived at the Raffels hotel as I pulled up the little man came and opened the car door for me it was all very posh really nice hotel, I asked the little man where the bar was to have a Singapore sling so he told me to go upstairs to the Long Bar as I walked up the stairs the view from the balcony was amazing, there was a massive water fountain with lights going through it a band playing music palm trees with fresh coconuts on them and a sea food restaurant with all fresh fish that had been caught that day,
I arrived at the Long Bar and as I walked in there were monkey nuts all over the floor I walked to the bar and asked the bar man for the "LEGENDARY" Singapore Sling I sat at the bar and within seconds it was in front of me along with my bill for $27.50 which in pound sterling is about thirteen quid I knew it would be that expensive as everyone did pre warn me but it's one of the things that you try and only do the once,
I have to say that to be totally honest I was not really that impressed with the Singapore sling don't get me wrong it was quite nice but nothing to rave about, but at least I can say that I have experienced it now and that it really wasn't as amazing as everyone told me, what was quite funny about that bar though was they had massive bowls of monkey nuts everywhere and when you crack the shell you to your nut you just chuck the shell on the floor, The whole place was covered in monkey nuts it was quite weird.
I left raffles hotel and decided to see the town of Singapore I took a long walk through the town and went and had a look at the biggest market in Singapore I walked through it in 10mins so not that big really and they were just selling junk nothing worth buying as I took a stroll through the town I thought there is really nothing more that I can really do now so I might as well go back to the hostel
I arrived back to the hostel and went to the balcony bit where the girls that were in the same dorm were knocking back bottles of wine and beer so I had a few beers with them which was quite nice,
When I went to bed I had the worst night sleep ever the bed was so small it was a single but half the size of a single so what ever that would be called I was still on my old time so did not get any sleep at all.
I decided that as I could not sleep I might as well get out nice and early and make the most of the day,
I really wanted to go to Singapore Zoo so I got myself a taxi down there and went to the Zoo it was amazing nothing like crappy London Zoo this Zoo the animals had space to run about they were all well looked after and feed and they are in there own climate as well,.
I see the White Tigers, the Polar Bears, Monkeys, Lions every animal that you would expect to see, I went to 4 of the shows, The first was "The Rainforest fights back" and at the end of the show you could go on to the stage and have your picture taken with the snake which I did, the lady did ask me if I wanted to stroke it but getting me stood next to one is a massive effort for me as I can not stand them,
I then went to the Elephant show which was amazing how they have trained them but as I was watching it I did think that it was cruel in what they were having to do, I also went and see the Polar Bear being fead along with the Lions and it was fantastic watching them,
The Zoo was an amazing experience and I am really pleased that I went ,
I am happy with the time that I have spent in Singapore I have managed to get all that I needed to see packed in to the 2 days that I have been here but am now happy to move on as I think that any longer here and I would start getting bored 2 days in Singapore is more than enough time here,
Next stop Melbourne so you will next hear from me down under.
