In front of restaraunt

I know I had said that I would be in touch once in Thailand but I had to share with you the most amazing experince that I had.
Yesterday, after writing my blog, I decided to go for some dinner. I chose an authentic Chinese restaraunt down the road. I sat at a table sipping tea waiting for the dish that I had ordered ( I couldn't recognize many of the menu items). A family of 4 sat at the table next to me and they stared a lot. They asked the server, in chinese, about me as I over heard him tell them that I was from Canada. The dad cleared a spot and motioned for me to join them. I hesitated and then the daughter(22 years old) who spoke broken english invited me to join them. She explained that it is a very special evening and that they would be happy to share it with me. We continued to share about each others countries and celebrations and families and it was amazing. They brought home made wine to the restaraunt and poured it for me and then it was "CHEERS" all night long. They were so happy that I joined them, it was like I was famous or something. The daughter, Sun Li Fang, would say "so happy" and "so beautiful". After the dinner we walked and went to their hotel where the dad went to his room and came down with the customary red envelope containing money that they give to the younger people during the New Year as a gift. I was surprised when he passed me an envelope which I later opened and discovered $100 HK dollars. The New Year is a lot about wishing for prosperity and for a happy year to come. It is the Year of the Rat and as my best friend pointed out, for me it is the year of the"Cougar" He,He( Very funny T, I LOL). They asked to meet with me this morning so the son and daughter came to my hotel and we all went for breakfast together. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to try so many different foods. They would order many dishes and then explain what they were and when they would eat them. I felt like this was such an amazing experience. I never imagined I would have such a wonderful time. I must share that my experience with the people over here has been very positive. I was surprised how friendly and helpful everyone is. I also smile and try to be respectful so I will attract positive experiences, and so far it is working.
I am off to the airport in a couple of hours. So Im sure this time, that my next blog entry will be in Thailand...
Happy NewYear,
Natalie
