The journey is on! I've included a couple of pictures of our hike up Mt. Agamenticus in Maine to show the pre-peak foliage and where I've been hanging out the last few months. Since the job is over, the house is sold, my arms have been pumped full of inoculations to ward off various diseases, tropical and not, the cat is being cared for, the car is covered and up on blocks, the last remaining bits o stuff are packed away in storage, and the first round of airline tickets are paid for, it is time to get going!! All the prep work is finally done, including the visas for China. That was funny because I needed a more than 30 day visa, which I told the company before I sent in my check. They called me this week to say "we can't possibly do this without more time" and since my plane ticket was already booked, I said "find a way" which of course, they did. Up before dawn to catch my early early plane, with a few more last minute glitches like the rest of my air tickets not arriving ...what to do?? Luckily I'll be in Canada for 2 weeks so Fedex can get them here...or can they? And my cell phone got completely locked up, so we're getting these troublesome things out of the way early. Flew into Salt Lake City, brown, dry and remarkably flat, with the snowless mountains and the famous lake surrounding the airport. Spent my layover talking to cell phone vendor - looks like we'll be cancelling them. Flew into Vancouver, absolutely gorgeous, saw Mt. Baker from the air, its peak above the dense cloud cover. An amazing view.
