We arrived in Brisbane to rain. Frustrating having left a sunny New Zealand and a band of cricket
fans heading to the final and decisive test match. This was the second visit to Brisbane for both of us and neither of us had seen the city in sunshine. It should also be said that when I visited back in 2004 the highlight of the trip was the cinema and Piet seemed to have had a similar experience. Since our visits to Brisbane, however, we have made two lovely Australian friends both of whom have strong links to the city, so we were determined to see a different side to Queensland's capital. We were not disappointed and found a fun area and some great fish in the West End. The next day, however, with the rain constant and the indoor attractions visited of previous trips, we went to the cinema.
We had headed over to Australia a little earlier than originally planned, as friends from London, Simon and Claire were in the town (Claire being one of the aforementioned Aussies)
Easter is a weird holiday. Everyone looks forward to it pretty much from the beginning of January, with four whole days off work to savour and it is always a good weekend. However, Easter weekends never really stand out, blending in to other lovely weekends when we get treated to a roast dinner by Mum or Eileen! In fact the last Easter I remember distinctly was visiting friend's of my parents who put on and Easter egg hunt for Ani and me.
I would have been five? At the end of our weekend on Straddie, however, we all agreed that for once we would remember Easter, not least as I imagine I will still be finding the wrappers from the mini eggs we devoured come Christmas.

Half of clown corner
. For the first time in almost four months we were with mates from Blighty and it was a little emotional seeing familiar faces! Claire had kindly invited us to join her family over the Easter weekend on North Stradbroke Island and we spent a fantastic four days, the sunshine finally reaching Australia's 'Sunshine State', playing beach cricket, eating some great food, having a few drinks and generally relaxing.
