to Bordeaux and back, instead of my last weekend in Paris I turned to SNCF web site to find a seat abord a train to the WEst of France. Never been there, and thought it about time. Got tickets for Bordeaux and visited with help of my french friend last minute.com for a suitable beach-side hotel - thoughts were to go to Lacanau first then the hotel I realised I had booked was not situated there, but Andernos-Les-Bains - oh well should be nice I thought.
Leaving Montparnasse seemed so relaxed and easy, very large station and to match a very large train I was in the 18th car! very comfortable seats, but also very full. This was start of the mass exodus in France just as August starts for the 'vacances'...
Missed the first bus connection from the Bordeaux gare, so sat and drank my first of many glasses of red wine...felt asleep on way to Andernos, arrived and was told by the bus driver my hotel was very , very far nearly 3km, I could not possibly walk there, with that I asked which direction and started on my trek to the hotel.
hotel was right next to the ocean, wonderful. It was low tide and the smell was like old fish to be honest! Stood out on my balcony and thought yes I arrived, just what I wanted.
Checked back to where the bus stop was, not quite 3km, but yes far and stumbled across Andernos-Les-Bains 34th Jazz festival, what a treat, a free Jazz concerts all weekend...all that was needed now was a nice bottle of Bordeaux...
10 euro menu...the waiting
JAzz band, playing old 50s Jazz in English, sitting on the grass
20 euro menu....and more waiting
Luggage on the beach, reading White Teeth....perfect, oh and of course this time half a bottle of rose.
