... with just now five days till I leave, it has gone very quick but also at times quite slow, with all the Christmas and New Year celebrations, a lot of family and friend visiting, the last three weeks since I quit my job and left London, it has been a bit of a blur.

I have been slowly working through several lists, a good friend told me everything can be sorted with a list, this actually seems to work! A list for what to pack, need to buy, a list for admin and important things to sort out.I have also created piles of stuff, washed clothes to take, useful items friends have bought me to take with me, solar battery travel charger pack and my luxury item travel hairdryer, right to blow up pillow and a very cool picture book if I can't speak the language at least I can 'point' to a picture of it!

I've been reading blogs, talking to others that have traveled and soaking up the guidebooks as much as can go in my head at the moment, it all seems that I am watching myself from above and I am going to wake up and it's all been a dream, but no wait I am actually going to live my dream not just wish I could, wow!

I was out with my father and his friends in the pub celebrating the Christmas period, and one of them said to me that I was brave and he wish he could do what I was doing if he had the time, money etc, with that he said you know you are the female version of Indiana Jones. Pretty neat description although I do hope my travels are without less snakes than Indiana's encounters. Another friend told me he thought I would be famous and I will achieve so much from my trip and stay for two years - does he know something I don't ? The kind words of people that know me very well right to those who just heard about my trip have been wonderful and so sincere and I thank everyone reading this for their support and encouraging words and some of my very best friends in the world (you know who you are) a massive thank you for all looking after me. I have to say I particularly need to award my Dad the patience badge of Honor, it's been an emotional roller coaster and he has been there all the time telling me go for it, so thank you Dad.

I read that South Americans like to know about your family and where you are from, so I have created a small little photo memory book to take with me, almost fits in a pocket, of family, friends and places and things important to me and I will be showing people I meet on my travels to strike a conversation or just as a reminder of what's at home when I return.

So what's left to do... well thanks to 'Runaway Jane's' site , if you are a female traveler go check this site (, I have packed the right mix of travel underwear, I made up on my own first aid kit based on some basics that lots of sites recommend for long travel, I'm now doing the admin items like loading more music onto my mobile phone music player, replying to lots of emails and phone calls, seeing more relatives and friends and finally I need to now pack the backpack... I'll let you know how that goes.

A few words borrowed from Steve Jobs (yep the IT geek still in me), when if I need a little reminder of why I should go on my round the world trip. "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... Most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Wise words on this New Year's day and I wish everyone an amazing 2012, one thing is for certain it will be an interesting one for me!

Go Girl, Keep us posted. I would like to say I'll miss you, but I will just be jealous, anxiously waiting for your updates and our incredibly big catch up when you get back.

PS: I will miss you, even though we only see each other once a year anyway :)
