We tried to ask if this bus was heading where we needed to go. He just looked at us crazy. A nice lady in line said that she thought we were not in the right place but that she would talk to the bus ticket guy for us. He said that this bus would eventually get to Queen Bus Station. We were hoping to find our way from there.
As we got on the bus we found out that they don't take any of the currencies that we offered to pay with. We have about 10 different ones, but none of them were acceptable forms of payment. The incredibly nice lady offered to pay for us. We tried to pay her back, but she said no. She helped us find our stop and was very worried about our well being. It was so good to feel generosity and concern from a total stranger. We shook hands as she got off the bus, and I was wishing I had known her name or some way to thank her for helping us so much. I prayed that God would bless her, that was all I knew to do.
Eventually we made it to our bus stop and found our way to the 7th Story Hotel in Singapore. It has been a very nice hotel with many fun people roaming about. We've enjoyed meeting them and swapping stories. We've also liked roaming through this incredibly clean and civilized town. Although there are many laws to guide the citizens the impact has been tremendous. Everywhere you go it feels high tech and welcoming. Everyone here speaks English and all the signs are in English as well. It was been refreshing. Charlie calls it the ideal American city. No graffiti, no bums, no nonsense. Lovely.
We have tried to be a bit adventurous. Today we tasted some crazy fruits we had never seen before, some Asian food from a local food bazaar, and a glass of sugar cane juice. We enjoyed most of it.
We ventured into Chinatown, checked out the Temple, and had our lunch. We then caught the metro to the harbor and then the river. It was nice to see the different sides of Singapore and all it has to offer. We will be checking it out more in the days to come.
