Journey to the centre of the universe and beyond today.  Well, the centre of England to be more precise as that is what Meriden claims to be with an historic cross that is supposed to mark the spot.  The Ordnance Survey have actually calculated that the geographical centre of England is 11 miles north in Leicestershire, but what's 11 miles between friends?!
Meriden turns out to be a hotbed of local activism as travellers invaded local fields on the last Bank Holiday and started developing this part of "the Meriden gap" without planning permission. In response, locals have set up official protest tents at either ends of the lane, with oil drum fires, tea tents and official points to hand in objections to the planning committee.  The local bobby looks a little out of place having been sent to keep an eye on the genteel protestors, the vast majority of whom are well past retirement age!

Today's smiles:

Thick carpets of bluebells
Guinea fowl.  Possibly the noisiest birds on the planet.  Perhaps they could be used as an early-warning system for intruders?!
Conversation overheard in a pub about Britain's Got Talent:  'Eric, what the name of the lady who originally sang "Je ne regrette rien"?  You know, "the little sparrow".'
'Eva Peron?',
'No, she was Spanish and sang "Don't Cry for me Argentina".'
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Simon Cowell have a lot to answer for!
