Following in the footsteps of ancestors today (relatives from both sides of the family came from the Derbyshire/Staffordshire borders)  as the path from Ilam takes me back towards the River Dove and on into the Midlands to pick up the Heart of England Way in a day or two.
Considering that Stoke and Derby are fairly close on either side, this area is actually a quiet corridor of lush green fields, hedgerows and woods.  Carpets of bluebells are appearing in the woods and there are cowslips in the fields.
The aim for today was originally to get to Abbot's Bromley, about five miles on from Uttoxeter, but weary feet make me a call it a day and I hop on a bus to Stafford to meet my friend Wren and head for a rest day at her house in Shrewsbury.

Today's smiles:

Going into the churchyard at Ilam Hall to look for Coxons (maternal grandmother's family) and finding Friths.
The JCB World Headquarters - of all the things I thought I might see here, huge fleets of JCBs wasn't on the list!
