Where I stayed
Lucky we are coming home soon so no more dire blog titles can be thought up!!! (we went for something more neautral with the name of this one!).
Had the worst journey of our trip to get from Leon to Copan, was pretty ridiculous!! I won`t winge too much but here are some of the highlights:
* Having to take six buses in two days
* Having to stand up for five hours on a seven hour journey across Honduras
* Getting dropped off in La Entrada with the bus driver assuring us it was Copan Ruinas!! Then looking in Lonely Planet and it saying `if you are in La Entrada, something has gone wrong`!!
But anyway, we did eventually make it and the hotel was really nice so we chilled for a day or so after which was a welcome break from the manic travelling! The nightmare bus journey had however made us think twice about our plans to head to Northern Honduras and then ferry to Belize. We just weren`t sure we could handle another million bus rides and a mad rush to get to Cancun in time for our flights. Instead after checking the foreign office website! we decided to bus into Guatemala for two days just to see Tikal, which definitely proved to be a good decision.
The second day in Copan after a fruitless search for Skype we headed out to the ruins about 1km out of town. The ruins are beautiful and set in jungle with perfectly manicured lawns (not so original) and amazing carvings all around. You could climb up some of the small pyramids and see the stelae (rock carvings) all around the site. It is a beautiful site and made all the more interesting by the hundreds of macaws in the surrounding forest!
Copan was a great place to spend a few days, a really pretty town and lovely ruins to explore
