Just a quick location check-up. Arrived into Alice Springs from Cairns yesterday. Flew in, as frankly you can forget a 3 day bus journey. It is absolutely baking hot here (somewhere around 38 degrees in the shade) though, true to form, the weather performed yesterday afternoon - it absolutely monsooned it down for about 2 hours. The locals were 'stoked' as the last time they had any rain was some time in early January. They were even happier when their river started one of its sporadic flows. Good for them. There's quite a wry sense of humour about the place in relation to being able to cool down - the bloke who drove us from the airport to the hostel (this is before the rain) said that if we wanted to cool down, we could go to the river, where we'd be just as hot as it never flows. Hmmm.

At some retarded hour tomorrow morning we're off on an 11 day trip thing from here around some bigs rocks in the middle and up to Darwin and a swampy area with things that'll eat you - should be a laugh.
