We left Brugge and headed to Neiuwport
and spent the next 29 miles on the road and then a canal. It rained
on and off.
Our next day took us from Neiuwport to
Dunkerque, a total of 24 miles. The weather remained cloudy. The
campground had internet but, we couldn't get it to work. We did send
a email to our son via the free internet at McDonald's, just to let
him know everything was alright with us.
intended destination) was 25 miles in the worst wind conditions we've
ever had. We were cycling on D601 with lots of traffic. Part way
thru the day, Chuck had a flat rear tire. After that, we decided to
call it a day at the nearest campground because we were physically
exhausted. Being that the next day was a national holiday, we went
to the store for provisions. We decided not to travel the that day
so, we hug out, played cards and charged all of our electronic
Sunday, July 15th we left
the campground after changing another flat tire, this time a front
one. This day proved to be worst than the previous day that we rode.
We traveled 32 miles but, it took us nearly 6 hours. The wind was
coming at us at about 20-25 miles an hour and there were lots of
hills, some what we call pushers. We didn't get into the campground
until almost 7pm.
The scenery has been beautiful but, the
weather has been quite cold
the 50's at night. The wind chill makes it bitterly cold. We had
decided to hop on a train and get south into a warmer climate with
After a nights rest we decided to scope
out the train service and get on the internet. We received several
emails from my sister that Mom had fallen and broke her hip, ankle
and wrist. It must have happened on the 10th. Since
then, she has had hip surgery. She seems very disorientated which
seems to indicate that she had a stroke and then fell. She doesn't
seem to know my sister. I don't know the prognosis as of yet but, we
will be getting updates from my sister. We may be flying home early.
