We walked around the entire town today, and we stopped for lunch at Perry's, a local favorite. It has a very cute interior, but I wasn't that impressed with the food. We visited a consignment store to see if I could find anything I just had to have, but to Ted's great fortune, I did not
The highlight of our day came in the afternoon when we visited the shop Local Color where we met Lyn, a wonderful artist and a really neat lady. She owns this wonderful pottery/ceramic shop where you can paint an object and get it fired. I chose an oval dish, and Ted chose a round bowl. We had too much fun painting and being creative. It was a totally different experience from skiing, but we enjoyed it just as much. And on a side note, this is the same shop where Demi Moore's kids came on a regular basis to do pottery projects. You can get my autograph when I return home.
Another highlight was a visit to the grave of Ernest Hemingway. He came here in 1939 as a celebrity to advertise the ski resort, then he and his fourth wife moved here in 1959. He worked on To Whom the Bell Tolls during his first visit. Unfortunately, he shot himself here in his home near town in 1961. We wanted to visit his home, but there is some legal battles going on, and the house is off limits for everyone. However, it was interesting to see his grave and to think about his literary accomplishments. There are lots of treasures in this town.
We stopped at the Java Coffee Shop for a warm drink and a muffin before heading to the grocery store for dinner food. We had a nice meal in our condo before calling it a day.
