Close Encounters of the Third Kind

We had dinner back at our cabin, and then we played Phase Ten
with Carol and Leo. Ted had never played before, and he “blew away the competition” (Ted). Fun day.
Today was a travel to Wyoming day. We headed out pretty early to go to Spearfish and the scenic route in that area on our way to Devil's Tower, Wyoming. Ted and I added another state to our list of states—so far we have visited 34. The Spearfish area had a few waterfalls, beautiful rock formations, canyons, and conifers. We spotted Devil’s Tower from about 20 miles away—it is huge, about 1300’ tall. The top is a curved meadow about the size of a football field—gives a whole new meaning to "go out for a wide pass"! Climbers are allowed here, and we actually talked to two young men who had climbed the Tower yesterday and part of it today. They said it takes about two hours to climb up and about 35 minutes to repel down. They told us the top was a beautiful meadow and that they had stayed up there for over an hour because it was so peaceful. I wish I was brave and athletic enough to climb it.
