Back to Lovely Lima and, for the first time on this trip, I have phoned ahead and reserved a room for the next few days and what a wonderful feeling it is to know we have somewhere nice to stay. Eva has made a place that feels like a home (guess it couldnīt be any other way when her daughter does her homework at the kitchen table each night). Lima is as grey as ever but warm and we feel organised to dare venture out complete with cameras this time. Caught some lads doing there best to earn a few sols leaping, spinning and cart wheeling for the cars. I ask to take a photo and they leap back to the pavement and put on a whole show and didnīt ask for a penny afterwards (although we tipped of course). Fantastic athletes and very friendly lads despite standing upside down on a filthy road in all that pollution day in day out.

Felt our first earthquake in Lima - only a tremor but enough to make me freeze Amazing mosaic on the Museo de Arte Italiano

. Heard later that it had been a six on the scale but way out at sea so we only felt it a little. Would have been horrific if it had been in a town but weīre all lucky this time.

By the way...

You know youīre in Peru when you...
Hear...Shakira every day and you know those hips donīt lie
See..stones bigger than your car sculpted and shaped and lovingly placed in a perfect fit with the other hundred huge stones around it make a wall that lasts through all the turmoil only Peru can throw at it.
Smell... urine on every street and corner, does nobody use all these public toilets?
Taste...Inca Cola! Bright yellow and tastes like bubblegum and cream soda and the Peruvians love it (as do I!)
Touch...the streets are awash with counterfeit money, feel the paper to see if itīs a photocopy, check for the width of your coins...
Feel....well that depends on the day....
