After all the warnings in our guidebook and by our landlady about robbers lurking on every corner, we decided to leave the cameras in the hotel so...no photos IŽm afraid. Maybe weŽll be a little braver when we get back there.
WeŽd only planned on staying a night before heading up north but our hostel was so sweet that we hung around for a few days. Found a cheap museum - El Museo De La Nation - which had a great cross-section of stuff from all over Peru and even some explanations in English. Man, the pottery they produced round here is mind blowing, really detailed and imaginative.
Lima is not the most attractive of capitals - over 8 million people, most living in dire poverty in the surrounding shanty towns, lots of theft and violence, lots of noise and pollution and this horrible grey sea mist which covers the city and most of the coast for most of the year. Makes Glasgow seem positively colourful! CouldnŽt find any food that wasnŽt swimming in a thick layer of oil and the supermarket prices are the same as the UK. Looking forward to heading north.
