After yet more dire warnings about corrupt border police and taxi scams we had a remarkably pleasant crossing into Peru - the man who stamps your passport smiled, spoke a little English and changed the stamp from 60 to 90 days without a word. Very pleasant indeed.

Caught a bus to Puna then decided to jump straight on the next one to Cusco while it was still early (heard stories about the buses on this route being robbed after dark). Arrived in Cusco late so stayed in a grim little hotel near the bus station and found somewhere nicer the next day. Prices here are a bit of a shock after Bolivia - more like being back in Britain. Guess it´s all down to Machu Pichu - the crowd puller of South America. Lots of tourists = lots of money = higher prices.

Cusco is stunning, well, what little we´ve seen of it so far. All towering cathedrals, colonial balconies and imposing Inka stonework. Easy to spend hours just looking at each building.

Caught a religious march. A group of very smart people solemnly carried the virgin dolls aloft through the streets but were preceded by a group of men in masks depicting some very inebriated dancing fellows. Looked great.
