After exploring the wonderful Quebrada valley we decided to head up another valley further west, to a little village called Cachi. Seemed simple enough - catch a bus to Angastaco, spend the night there then catch another bus up to Molinos for the connection to Cachi. After a bum-numbing few hours on the dusty, windswept road to Angastaco we arrived to discover there are no other buses, only a very expensive pick-up truck...so we hitched and amazingly got a lift. I say amazing as there is only roughly one car an hour on this road. Molinos is a strange little town, the kind where there are signs of a little too much inbreeding. We arrived late at night so hung around to explore the next day...found the graveyard but not much more.

Got up at half past five the next morning to catch the bus but of course THERE IS NO BUS!!!!Not that anyone tells you this (and I did ask a couple of locals). So, more hitching, this time starting at seven in the morning. By eleven we´re still sitting at the side of the road but have been joined by a couple of Israeli girls. Four people with four huge bags...we didn´t have a hope in hell! Twelve hours of hanging around the side of the road and we´d resorted to flagging down an ambulance, a police car and various vehicles going the opposite direction (¨We´ll pay you!¨)No luck, so we camped out beside the river and managed to catch the rather irregular bus the next day.

Cachi is lovely - very chilled. There´s a huge square in the middle which is perfect for watching the world go by although the dust storms can be a little grating. Camped in an empty campsite as usual and as usual everyone asked us ¨Aren´t you cold?¨ even though it is toastie warm inside the tent. Woke up to a party at one in the morning and finally decided to be a party pooper and ask them to turn it down. Well at least I think that´s what i said, I struggle with English when woken up in the middle of the night. It didn´t see to be working so I took the ¨Ok, well I´ll just stand here till you get nervous and go to bed¨ and it worked :) Man there´s empty space as far as the eye can see but folk always want to party where you´re sleeping. Guess I should get used to the noise eh? I´m in an internet shop just now and they have the tv on full and two music stations on the radio plus numerous children playing computer games at full volume, lovely....
