What a wonderful city to touch down in after such a long flight! The people are really friendly and laid-back, the buses are reliable and there are so many hotels to chose from you can really take your pick. We found a nice little Chinese run place that was less than half the price of the hostel opposite (having your name in the Lonely Planet means you can hike up your prices it seems). Six quid a night for a double room with a tv (going to enjoy it while we can!), a communal kitchen and a hot shower - luxury!

Temperatures are high and we´re struggling after those layers of hats and scarves back in Glasgow. The buses and taxis are numerous and few have an effective exhaust so the air is heavy with fumes and dust. Found a few places to escape the pollution - the beautiful La Boca, a riot of multi-coloured houses and tango dancing in the streets. It´s beside the port so folk used to (and still do) use the left-over paint from the boats to paint their homes (for British friends - Balamory has nothing on this!).

Buenos Aires is such a contradiction of a city but I guess the economic crash played a big part in that - huge, old colonial buildings, gorgeous parks, ladies in designer shades with noses so high in the air they can hardly see the street and then you see the kids sorting through the rubbish at night and your heart aches for them. It´s certainly a city with history but we´ll come back and explore later - off to find some shade and fresh air in Sierra de la Ventana!
