It's nice in Nice! Yachts, Bentleys, and Trainers
I want to start by adding something that I forgot to write about on
the last blog. Our train to Nice was supposed to leave from Barcelona
at 845 and so we planned to get up early and walk down there. Well, we
over slept and ran about a mile to the station. We got on the train
with about 2 minutes to spare.
Now we are on a train again. It's about 6pm here and we are heading to
Genoa, Italy right now where we will wait for a few hours and then
head to Rome. We'll get to Rome at about 6am on Thursday.
We had a lot of fun in Nice. I'll try to see if I can remember most of
it to write it down. Like Barcelona, Nice is on the Mediterranean Sea
so the weather and the views are beautiful. (The girls are not bad
either). We arrived in Nice and went to the internet cafe to get a
hostel. We ended up finding a place with a three bed private room with
its own bathroom. This was great and it was more like a hotel room
than a hostel but still cheap. We went to the hotel, got ready, and
walked down the street to the Pedestrian Street where all of the shops
and restaurants are. We ate and had some wine outside at a
Mediterranean restaurant and I had escargot for an appetizer. Then, we
went out after than to a place called Wayne's. It was in an area
called Old Town. There was a band and they played mostly American
music.
The second day in Nice we got up and went to a bakery and had some
pastries for breakfast. Then, we went to the train station and booked
the train that we are on now to Rome. This was a whole lot easier than
in Barcelona as mostly everyone we ran into spoke English. Next, we
decided to take a day trip to Monte Carlo, Monaco which is about a 20
min train ride. Monte Carlo was awesome. The whole city is basically
built on a cliff so there was a lot of walking up hills. What we
didn't know before we got there was that the are apparently having an
F1 Gran Prix there in a couple of days. Monte carlo isn't a big city
and the roads are really winding and narrow. But the cars actually
race through the city streets. There were grandstands set up
everywhere and fences and barricades on the sides of all the streets.
Monte Carlo also sits on the Mediterranean and there were a lot of
boats in the harbour that had come to see the race. There were tons of
Multi-Million dollar yachts in the harbor from many different
countries. There was also a lot of exotic cars driving around the city
during the day. We saw Bentleys, Ferraris, and Rolls Royces.
We walked all around the city and went to a couple of the casinos.
They weren't really as grand and big as we expected but it was still
cool. We got back on a train and got back to Nice at about 7. Then we
took a nap and went to dinner at another Mediterranean restaurant.
Then we went back to Wayne's where we had gone the night before. We
met some girls there from Ireland and they told us that we should have
definitely gone to Dublin on the trip. Oh well, I guess we will have
to come back another time. One thing about being here is you can meet
people from a lot of different countries in one night and most of them
will speak English.
This morning we got up and had some brunch. Then we walked around and
checked out the beaches. They are made of rocks instead of sand but
people were still laying out on the ground. Then, we hiked up a
mountain and took some pictures of the city.
Finally, we had some Gellato which is kind of like ice cream and then
picked up our bags and walked to the train station. Rome here we come.

Thanks for reminding me
Hey Aaron, your dad just sent me the link to your blog. Sounds like a blast. So glad you have the opportunity to do this - super cool! BTW, thanks for mentioning the F1. I need to set it to record it. Shane follows it and Monoco is fun to watch. It's a shame you aren't staying around to see it. Have fun
Nice
Yeah I had escargot in Paris and it was awesome! Lots of garlic but I liked it even more than osyters. Don't know if it's better in France since I think they are known for it. I don't know if you can find it everywhere but if you can find the creeps are great too (they look like a rolled up thin pancake).
