After a good night's sleep and an early bite to eat, kindly provided by the Linderhof staff the night before, we hit the road out of Leavenworth before sunrise. Traffic was at first fairly light but did begin to intensify during the day. With our new Walmart footwear and knee-high compression stockings and taped up feet we had a new spring in our step and found ourselves making good time on the gradual uphill towards Steven's Pass.

The scenery out of Leavenworth was spectacular as the sun began to light up the tops of the surrounding mountains and the Wennatchee River flowed strongly to our left. Birds and geese on the water were plentiful.

Near Tumwater where Anne was waiting for us at the side of the road she saw some construction workers who orderderd her to stay in her car as a large black bear had just crossed the road.

After an early hot lunch MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) Anne provided at Nason Creek rest stop, we continued the uphill journey towards Steve's Pass. Shortly before the Pass we were
notified that pedestrians were prohibited over the Pass and through the rock blasting area. We were by then very grateful for this compulsory respite especially since this was largely a steep downhill area which would have been intense punishment on already wounded toes.

Traffic in the afternoon increased substantially and with many areas of very narrow shoulders, made single file walking  a necessity.

As we approached Skykomish we saw our first slug on the side of the road since we had left Issaquah for Spokane. It was a visual reminder of just how sluggish we felt and ready for bed at the Cascadia Hotel.

On this stretch of road we began to feel for the first time that we were on the home stretch. Only two more days to go. YIPPEEE!!!

Glad you had some lucky breaks today and good to see jackets and hats! That sure beats heat exhaustion. Prayers of perseverance (and several other things) for the next two days.

I am glad that you did not have to walk the pass. I have been concerned about that. I thank you for the upcate every day. I have been forwarding them on to my family and Roscoe's daughters as well. We all have been praying for you and really wonder how you are able to keep going with your feet the way they are. Anne's skill and the help of the Lord, I am sure. God strengthen you and keep you. You are almost there. God Bless.
