We got started today at shortly after 2;00am and enjoyed walking in the pitch dark without the interference of city lights to hinder the magnificence of the shining heavens. Maria and I loved the opportunity to sing as many praise songs as we could remember.

Later, as the transformation from night to day commenced, we were blessed to see the sky changing through grays and and light blues to pinks and orange till the brilliant sun popped over the eastern horizon.

The heat of the day soon became a reality to deal with and we both had to have our camelbak's refilled twice. Anne did a sterling job of shuttling back and forth to pick up some iced coffee to assist in refreshment. At a rest stop where we were able to take care of weary and hurting feet she had prepared a nutritious meal for each of us.

As we approached Creston we took the time to spend some moments in a wayside chapel to stop, rest, and pray before pushing on toward Wilbur where the temperature on a roadside sign showed 91 degrees!

Our pace soon slowed from our 3 mph to about 2 and we remembered the advice of Helen Thayer to keep seeing ourselves finishing the course for that day and relaxing in a cool room. Maria and I continued to encourage each other with God's promises of rest and refreshment until we finally hobbled into our destination for the day around 2:30pm.

Our change of plan is to eat right away and get to bed till about 9pm and then start walking again around 10pm and ttry to make the most of the cooler night time hours.

You have been much on my mind and in my prayers. You are taking a different route than i thought you would be taking. A hot one just the same. Wish I could send you some of our cooler weather. I think it is wise to do your walking in the sunless hours, but of course you do not get to see much of the country side then. Perhaps enough. God Bless and keep you.

Well done so far! The heat sounds quite intense, and I'm sure walking in the cool of the night will make things easier. May Ps 121 be a reality to you both, especially "... He won't let you stumble, your Guardian God won't fall asleep......God's your guardian, right at your side to protect you - shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke.....He guards you when you leave and when you return, He guards you now, He guards you always."(MSG)
