Eric hits Medellin....................

After Susan and Anya left for Venezuela, we had our last basic trial ad course of the year in Medellin. I worked with Manuel (from my office), Nestor and Myriam. We had a great first week and enjoyed hanging out with Gladys, who was part of the prosecutor school. We went to see the Christmas lights, which are like nothing I've seen before. They decorate the Medellin River in lights and one main drag, La Playa, is also beautifully decorated. The street is closed to traffic, so it's nice to walk around.
Then, Eric arrived on Saturday(a day early). We went to dinner Friday night at "oh my god park" and Eric had a smile on his face the entire night. And, it wasn't because he was glad to see me, it was the sights he saw as we ate dinner outside. Then we hit a club where I introduced Eric to aguardiente (aka fire water). We had a great time and then headed back to the hotel for some zzzzzzzzzzz. The next night two more prosecutors arrived, Jose and Tom. Some Colombian prosecutors joined us as well (Alfredo, Liliana and Victor). I had never met Jose and he turned out to be a super nice guy. We all went out on Monday night and had a blast. We ate, drank, and danced till the wee hours. The next day was slow moving for everyone and I had to fly back to Bogota to pick my mom up at the airport and to attend some meetings.
Apparently, while I was gone, Jose's brother who was visiting Colombia showed up and stayed a few days. During that time, the boys partied really hard, so when I got back to Medellin on Friday, they were pretty tired. We went to dinner on Friday night and then went to a place called El Solar (the back yard) that was owned by some cousins I had never met before. El Solar was a pretty cool place. It was a nightclub with live music played by my two cousins, Gabriel (guitar) and Humberto (drums). Once I told them who i was, they hugged me and told me how happy they were to have me there. It was pretty cool. We had a really great time and didn't make it back to the hotel till after 3 am. The next day was brutal.
Saturday night after working all day, we decided to see the Christmas lights and take it easy. We saw the lights and Eric left us for some chic he had met while I was in Bogota and he was tearing up Medellin with Jose and Roel. The rest of the group went to Palmitos ( a restaurant that overlooks medellin). it was beautiful. We ate, drank and hung out for a while. Jose kept saying that he was going to turn in early, but decided to have one last beer at 11 pm. Well, that turned into a few more beers with Alfredo and they didn't get to bed till around 3 am. The next morning, Jose had to leave the hotel at 6 am to catch his flight home to Texas. Needless to say, he must have been hurting.
Overall, we had a great week and laughed a whole bunch. It was a nice way to end my halfway mark here in Colombia. I can't believe I've been here 6 months. The time has flown by! More thumbnails ...
