I traveled to Cucuta overnight on the 28th to talk with some prosecutors. The visit was uneventful and the city not really that nice. Cucuta is about 5 km from the Venezuelan border. The city is starting to improve, but they have a ways to go. For example, I stayed at the best hotel there and it was pretty bad. The bed was hard as a rock and in the morning, I was greeted by a little creature, a roach, when I went to brush my teeth! Guess he wanted to brush his teeth too! Unfortunately for him, he no longer needs to worry about that anymore :-)

The highlight of the trip was that I got to meet my office manager, Marines' family. They were great! We were traveling with another co-worker, Sergio M and Marines' mom invited us for dinner. We had a great dinner in Marines' mom's garden. It was huge and it was absolutely beautiful. Dummy me forgot my camera. We munched on some local food...meat, arepas (corn cakes of sorts), salad, corn on the cob and a great desert. They made the trip for me. I headed back to Bogota on Thursday to attend the Juanes concert.

For those of you who don't know who Juanes is, check out his bio on VH1's web page at! He's a cute, has big brown dreamy eyes and is an awesome singer. Juanes (Juan Esteban) left Colombia a few years ago to make it big in LA (every artist dream). Lucky for Juanes, he made it and he made it big. He's won latin grammys and has done concerts all over the world. His music is great because he sings about Colombia and social issues, but not in an annoying way. Like most Colombians, he's suffered the ravages of this crazy war and has lost people very close to him. Despite being a big star here and around the world, he is a cool, uncomplicated guy. He brought his little daughter on stage during the concert and told her to say hi to her uncles (the crowd). It was a great concert and I had a great time!

Till next time...................
